OBJETIVOS:
Compreender a relação entre cultura e cognição em primatas não humanos tendo por referência problematizações teóricas e práticas.
Os objectivos de aprendizagem específicos são:
i) Compreender e identificar as principais diferenças cognitivas entre macacos e pongídeos (humanos incluídos) e como as mesmas têm implicações no comportamento cultural das diferentes espécies;
ii) Acompanhar a evolução do conceito de cultura através dos tempos bem como as suas implicações práticas em campos científicos como a primatologia e a evolução humana;
iii) Reconhecer a tipologia das dimensões cognitivas;
iv) Identificar e mapear as diferenças culturais entre diferentes comunidades de chimpanzés e identificar outros comportamentos culturais nos restantes primatas não humanos.

To understand the relation between culture and cognition amongst non-human primates taking into consideration theoretical and practical approaches.
Specific learning outcomes are as follows:
i) To understand and identify the main cognitive differences between monkeys and apes and how these have implications in the cultural behaviour of the different primate species;
ii) To approach the concept of culture in a historic view and how such different historical contexts have practical implication for scientific fields such as primatology and human evolution;
iii) To recognize the different types of cognition;
iv) To identify and map the cultural differences amongst different chimpanzee communities and to identify other cultural behaviours in other non-human primates.
